All direct-care (support specialist) positions involve working with individuals who have a primary diagnosis of intellectual disabilities or a developmental disability. While some tasks are determined by the needs of the individual, most direct-care positions require training specialists to support clients with: carrying out activities of daily living, completing cooking and cleaning tasks, taking care of personal hygiene needs, taking medications, structuring free time, supporting behavior and providing transportation.

In order to be considered for employment, candidates must be found eligible based on criminal history background checks and Child Protective Services registry checks. Candidates must also meet requirements for minimum knowledge, skills and abilities according to their job description. For direct-care positions, the requirements are a high school diploma or GED or 6-months experience working in the human services field and completion of CPR, First Aid, MandtSystem and MR Waiver certification. Certification in medication administration and/or a current valid driver's license is also required for some positions. Training for certification in these areas is available through The Lamano Agency.

Work hours vary depending upon the position and the needs of the individual(s) served. The Lamano Agency accepts full-time, part-time and relief staff. Support specialist applications may be downloaded or obtained at one of our offices.

Sponsored Residential Licensing Process

Sponsored Residential Providers give care and provide training and assistance to individuals who have a primary diagnosis of intellectual disabilities. The individual lives in the provider's licensed home. Sponsored Residential Providers are not direct employees of The Lamano Agency; rather, they are contract employees.

In order to be considered for licensing, candidates must be found eligible based on criminal history background checks and Child Protective Services registry checks. Candidates must also meet requirements for minimum knowledge, skills and abilities according to their job description. For sponsored residential positions, the requirements are a total of six months' direct experience working with persons with MR or developmental disabilities or a bachelor's degree in psychology, social work, special education or related field. Completion of CPR, First Aid, Mandt System, MR Waiver certification, medication administration and a current valid driver's license is also required. Training and certification are available through The Lamano Agency.

Becoming a sponsored provider is a two-fold process. Both the individual who wants to become a sponsored provider and their home must meet standards. After an assessment of the candidate's capabilities, experience and training, and after it is determined that the home is suitable and meets requirements, the sponsored provider is licensed through the Agency to provide care in their home.

Client placement is contingent upon the desire of the individual who is seeking placement.

To request an application over the telephone or for general questions, please call our Human Resources Department at 434-369-9151.
