ANNOUNCEMENTS
Program Manager Ryan Long reports that she now has one case in Frederickburg and one pending case in Warrenton. Lamano Agency has officially expanded into Northern Virginia!
Savannah Thompson, Area Manager for Charlottesville, has added a Program Manager to her location. Welcome Carmen Del Toro, Program Manager.
AGENCY SPOTLIGHT:
Charlottesville Office
In late 2010, The Lamano Agency acquired space in the historic Ix complex near Downtown Charlottesville. Agency staff first moved in at the beginning of 2011 and immediately began the process of expanding our services in that area. Currently, the Charlottesville location houses offices for Savannah Thompson (Area Manager), Carmen Del Toro (Program Manager), Michele Bastista (Assistant to the Area Manager), and Denise Watkins (Office Assistant). Savannah is also working toward opening a day support center in the Charlottesville area. The office now supports 19 individuals receiving congregate services, 7 individuals receiving in-home services, and 4 individuals receiving respite services.
Area Manager, Savannah Thompson explains that being housed in the old Frank Ix and Sons factory is especially meaningful to her. Savannah's grandfather worked at the factory as a mechanic who repaired machines for over 40 years, and her grandmother worked there as a weaver for nearly 25 years. They loved the area so much that they purchased a house from Mr. Ix just down the street from Savannah's office space.
Savannah States:
"I visited the Ix textile mill as a kid. It was very different then, a big room with many complex looking machines and very noisy. I remember the retirement ceremony they had here for my grandfather. The whole family came. He got a gold watch for his 40+ years of service that he was very proud of. I never thought thjat I would spend my work days in the same place that my grandparents did. I was very close to them and their house was in sight of the mill. It was empty and falling apart for so many years. I think they would be proud of the work we do here now and that the building has a new life."

NEWS FROM THE RESIDENTIAL DEPARTMENT
Elizabeth Maghsoodi, Residential Program Manager, reports that several individuals who live in Lamano Agency group homes recently attended a prom sponsored by Climbing High Ministries. Elizabeth says everyone wore semi-formal attire and seemed to have a great time!
Documentation
During recent chart audits, managers identified a sample of exemplary note writing by one of our In-Home Support Specialists, Patricia Clark. A brief example of her notes is as follows:
|
12/12/11
6, 10 |
Staff assisted James with eating to prevent choking. I gave him verbal clues to empty his mouth before 6, 10 putting more food in. After breakfast, James assisted in cleaning up by removing dishes from the table. We went to church to hear Christmas carols. James behaved appropriately after the choir started. He seemed a little impatient waiting for it to start, so we went for a walk until it was time to start. The walk seemed to help and he appeared to enjoy the Christmas music. |
Patricia did a wonderful job describing the interactions she and ‘James’ were having, and how he responded. She also documented how she supported him when necessary.
