“We all live with the objective of being happy; our lives are all different and yet the same. — Anne Frank
AGENCY SPOTLIGHT:
WHEATLAND HOUSE
The Wheatland House is one of the agency’s six residential group homes. It is one of two homes designated for female individuals. The house is a ranch style home nestled in a cozy neighborhood. The ladies who live in the home are actively involved in the community. They take great pride in the appearance and upkeep of their home. Their love for crafts ensures that the home is nicely decorated for each holiday/season. The ladies enjoy cooking as well. During the warmer months they each take part in becoming “grill masters,” and there is always some kind of baking going on in the kitchen. Most recently, the ladies prepared caramel corn treat bags for the residential office staff. They also carved a beautiful pumpkin to help decorate their home.
Their community involvement includes local concerts such as Trace Adkins, Lady Antebellum, Ruben Studdard and special events such as Christmas on Ice. They enjoyed attending the annual strawberry festival this year and making freezer jam afterward. Other regular places of interest include the movie theater and the local public library. The ladies have actively participated in Challenged Sports, as well as attended College of Living classes at Central Virginia Community College. However, two of their most favorite activities are shopping and dining out. They recently enjoyed attending a potato supper fund raiser held for the Campbell County Habitat for Humanity. The proceeds from which helped support the completion of a home being built for a Lamano Agency employee. When the ladies are home and they aren’t cooking or doing crafts, they enjoy a variety of other leisure activities. These may include listening to music, enjoying a movie night, doing aerobic exercises, or playing Wii and other board/card games. Two of the ladies especially enjoy assembling puzzles and can spend hours focused on the goal of completing a puzzle. As you can most likely tell, the Wheatland House ladies stay extremely busy and the staff works very hard to ensure that everyone’s interests are met.
AGENCY NEWS:
During recent chart audits, managers identified a sample of exemplary note writing by one of our Residential Supervisors, Tamika Wright. A brief example of her notes is as follows:

James was then supported with making peanut butter cookies. After staff put all ingredients in the bowl, he was supported with mixing them. He seemed to be very interested in the cooking project. After staff formed balls and placed them on the cookie sheet, James used a fork to make a criss-cross design and flatten the cookie. Staff praised him and he smiled. he then chose to listen to music and danced and smiled.

Tamika did a wonderful job describing his response to the project and demonstrating what he was able to do independently and how she supported him when necessary.
