AGENCY SPOTLIGHT:

LAMANO AGENCY and LUTHERAN FAMILY SERVICES OF VIRGINIA

On June 23 of this year, Rob Lamano signed an agreement to sell The Lamano Agency to Lutheran Family Services of Virginia. LFSVA is a well known provider of educational and social services headquartered in Roanoke. Lutheran Family Services of Virginia shares in the belief of TheLamano Agency that individuals should be served with dignity and respect in a loving, healthy community environment. The leadership of LFSVA has expressed excitement that this partnership will allow the organization to provide services to adults with disabilities and build on existing services to children with disabilities and their families. It is a joint vision that together we will create an even wider community of care for those who need us most.

The LFSVA leadership team has already made it clear that they welcome and value The Lamano Agency family, and are very eager for us to lead the way in providing services to a population that they have long wanted to serve. LFSVA will have the benefit of our expertise, and we will have the benefit of their support and desire to build ID/DD programs.

The only thing that will be different is now The Lamano Agency is owned by and part of Lutheran Family Services of Virginia. Everything else will remain the same until our two management teams can figure out the best way to blend our operations. The Lamano Agency’s services have not changed, but the name has: Lutheran Family Services of Virginia Developmental Services through The Lamano Agency.

A FEW WORDS from the LEADERSHIP TEAM

“The mission of serving individuals with disabilities is very personal for me. Thirty years ago my husband and I became foster parents to, and then adopted, our now 39-year old daughter, who has a severe disability and currently lives in a group home in Minnesota. Dionne has enriched our lives in many ways, but we know the challenges of advocating for a loved one with disabilities. It is not an easy path, and we have learned how much the right service at the right time can make a life-changing difference. We have much to learn from the Lamano community, and we are eager to start working together to build and expand developmental services in this state.”

-Julie E. Swanson
Chief Executive Officer
Lutheran Family Services of VA

“Earlier this year Rob Lamano decided that in order for the agency to realize even greater potential in providing services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, it would need the resources, scope, and connections of a larger organization. Having worked hard to build the agency and feeling very deeply about its future, he put a lot of effort into finding a buyer who shared the core values and mission that have made The Lamano Agency such a wonderful place to work. I thank Rob for having the vision to start an agency that served individuals with disabilities so successfully and for his care and attention in ensuring a bright future for us as he steps away. I also thank our staff in advance for its continuing work and support during this next step in our organization’s life. Our partnership with LFSVA presents exciting opportunities for our staff, our community referral sources, and the people we serve and their loved ones.”
